4 Basic Strategies for Playing

If you are looking for an easy to understand casino table game then you may like playing roulette. There are many ways that roulette can be played, none of them are particularly better than any of the rest. So I am going to take a look at 4 of the more popular basic strategies for playing roulette at a casino.

#1 The Newbie Strategy

Most newbie players will approach a roulette table with their chips and after studying what numbers have been drawn beforehand, stick a few chips on either red or black. Newbies will often convince themselves that a particular colour is due to payout. If you miss, then you double your bet and play the same colour again, and again, until it pays out. The problem with this strategy is doubling up your bets can get expensive very quickly, make sure you don’t go bust.

#2 The Grinding Strategy

Another basic strategy for playing roulette is called “grinding”. This involves placing money on two 2/1 bets. For instance placing half of your chips on the 1st 12 numbers, and half your chips on the 3rd 12 numbers, leaving just the 2nd 12 uncovered. This strategy is played because some players feel that even though they are guaranteed to lose one half of their chips, there is a chance that they will treble up the other half of their chips, making them a winner. The problem with this strategy arises when a number lands on one of the 2nd 12 numbers, or the 0 or double 0.

#3 The Favourite Number Strategy

Everyone has their favourite numbers when it comes to playing roulette, most people choose birthdays or the ages of their children. It really doesn’t matter what numbers you choose when playing this strategy, what matters if the numbers are drawn. As long as they are, then you’re good. Better tactics when playing this strategy involve playing the corners of your numbers, which lowers the payout to 8/1, but also covers four numbers with one chip.

#4 Avoiding the Top Line

Roulette is one of the easiest games to play and understand in the casino. The easier a game is to understand then usually you will find that the house has a greater edge. There is a 5.3% house edge when playing roulette, with the exception of playing the top line, which most players avoid. Playing the top line raises the house edge up to about 8%. So if you’re going to play roulette at a casino, don’t make this bet.
