Any craps bet

Any Craps (2, 3, 12)

Craps players will sometimes yell out “any craps!” just as the shooter is about to toss the dice. The game of craps is all about gut instincts, and the any craps wager is often considered a bail-out bet. What does this mean? Simply put, the any craps bet is usually played as an insurance bet to balance out a loss on the pass line, and after a shooter has been on a roll other players feel that it may be time for a seven to show its face.

How to make the any craps bet: The any craps bet is located in the middle of the craps table layout in an area marked directly in front of the stickman. It will clearly read Any Craps and it runs the length of the entire center area. To place the bet you need to toss your chips towards the dealer or anywhere in the vicinity of the dealer and call out “any craps please.” The dealer will place the bet for you or push them towards the stickman who will then slide them into position.

What’s the Payoff? The payoff on this wager is 7 to 1. For example, if a player bets $5 and a 2, 3, or 12 shows he will be paid $35 thus netting a $35 profit plus his $5 wager stays on the table. The $5 on the table can be removed upon request. (There is some confusion with this payout; If the table says 7 to 1 you get $35 and your bet stays. If the table says 7 for 1 then you get $30 and you $5 bet stays on the table.)

Odds of rolling a 2, 3, or 12: Yes, this is the kicker, the odds of a shooter rolling an any craps number is pretty slim. There is one way to roll a 2, which is each die showing one dot or pip. There is only one way to roll a 12 (each die turning up a six), and there is two ways to roll a 3, a one and a two and the same numbers reversed on the dice.

Should you insure your Pass/Don’t Pass Bets? Let’s take a look at a scenario where a player is playing the pass line but also playing the any craps bet in an attempt to cover a big loss. If the player bets $15 on the pass line on the come out roll but then wagers $2 on an any craps (7 to 1) bet he will be covering all the numbers that win or lose during that roll. To review, on the come out roll (when a shooter is trying to establish a point number or roll a 7 or 11 to win) the shooter (must place a bet on the pass line) wins if he throws a 7 or 11 and loses if he throws a 2, 3, or 12. Thus the logic here is for the player to try and reduce the potential loss by betting both ways.

If the shooter tosses a craps number (2, 3, or 12) the player will lose the $15 pass line wager but win the $2 any craps bet at 7 to 1 or $14. On the other hand, the don’t pass bettor will often do the opposite by placing a bet on the “yo” or the “any seven.”

Is the any craps a sucker bet? In my opinion, yes, this is not a good bet. No matter how you place the bets, each bet on the craps table is an individual wager that comes with its own house advantage, which, by the way, is always in the casino’s favor but some are definitely better than others. Just because the pay off is attractive doesn’t mean it’s a good bet, in fact it means just the opposite.

Bottom Line: Don’t waste your time with this bet as it’s not worth it. You may hit it a couple of times but your chances of winning on the pass line and hitting the other numbers on the table are a lot stronger. If you really want to win at craps stay with the lowest casino edge bets. Remember, this is a one roll bet with a weak chance to win. The casino carries an 11.11 percent advantage on the any craps bet versus a 1.41 percent advantage with the pass line wager. Always go with the lowest house edge it will only increase your chances of winning and save you from dropping a ton of a cash at the tables.
